Douglas A. Saballos
Doug
is President of the South Florida Chapter of the
League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and
is involved with LULAC's efforts to pass
the *American DREAM Act. He is also
the South Florida representative of Defend the
Honor. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in
2005. He was president of the Miami chapter of The
Hispanic Society, United States Postal Service Inc.,
until 2000.
Doug
was born in New York City, N.Y., of Nicaraguan
parents who immigrated to the USA during World War
II. Both parents proudly contributed to the U.S. war
effort and his father was a U.S. Army WW II veteran.
Doug was raised in Nicaragua, but returned to the
U.S. and volunteered to serve in the U.S. Army
during the Vietnam war. He served in Vietnam and in
Germany. He considers his community involvement as
his duty as a citizen. Doug is currently doing
research on a book project. He graduated
Cum Laude with a B.A. in History from the
Universidad Centro Americana (UCA) Jesuit University
in Managua, Nicaragua in 1978. He recently returned
to college and earned an A.A. in Journalism from
Miami Dade College, graduating Phi Theta Kappa in
2007.

The DREAM Act is
proposed federal legislation
that
would provide limited legal status for high school
and college-age students who were brought to the
U.S. illegally by their parents as minors but wish
to attend college or serve in the armed forces of
the United States.
